How the people of Belarus cope with the blocking of the Internet

2

While Lukashenka claims that the Internet in the republic is being turned off from abroad, and this is not the initiative of the authorities, instant messengers, news sites and other critical Internet resources do not work throughout the country.

According to Lukashenka, in this way, ill-wishers want to displease the Belarusians. “Now our specialists are figuring out where this blocking comes from," Sputnik Belarus quotes the president .

If someone still thinks that due to the blocking of the Internet, only YouTube does not work and files are not loaded in Telegram, then you are mistaken. In fact, the Internet shutdown categorically affected the entire infrastructure of Belarus as a whole.

In addition to what we already wrote about in the last post, they also do not work at all or work poorly:

1 Bank payments. —It is not possible to pay by card in most places, and ATMs are also disabled.

2 Taxi and car sharing applications. You can still order by phone, but it’s not very convenient.

3 Navigation and traffic tracking. Transport in the country is heavily dependent on Internet navigation, and now navigation services cannot quickly track traffic jams and build routes based on this data.

5 Google, Amazon, Yandex services – for quite a few people this is a source of income. And all these services are also not available in Belarus.

Also, some services to bypass blockings, instant messengers and much more from heart monitors to air traffic, power supply to cities and other critical infrastructure are not available. Military vehicles are already driving around in the streets, riot police are arresting people, grenades are exploding, and people don’t even have the opportunity to write to their loved ones “I’m fine.”

However, everything is not as bad as it seems. Some services showed themselves very well, even in such “combat” conditions:

1 Telegram. While all other instant messengers and social networks showed no signs of life, Telegram worked, although media files took a long time to load, but messages almost always reached.

2 Psiphon VPN – turned out to be one of the few working VPN services.

Psiphon is a free and open source web censorship circumvention tool that uses a combination of secure communication and obfuscation technologies. This service was developed to bypass the Chinese Firewall, so Belarusian blocking was nothing to it.

All you need to do is download the application, install and click "tunnel all internet connections". For those who do not work with anything other than telegram, you can download the installation files from here.

Psiphon Pro for Android on the Google Play Store
Psiphon for iOS in the Apple App Store Psiphon for iOS
Browser on the Apple App Store

3 Tachyon VPN. Another Android app that works and might come in handy.

There are no centralized servers in Tachyon, and each of the network users is at the same time a server, so the service cannot be blocked, and information is exchanged directly between participants.

You can download Tachyon from the link. When you open the application, click "Enable".
