How to set an alarm on an iPhone that goes off when the battery is full

Excessive charging can damage your iPhone. In this article, we will set an alarm that will go off when your smartphone is charged.

Of all the myths about the iPhone battery, the most convincing one is that leaving your phone on charge all night is a bad idea.

Keeping the charge level at 100% puts stress on the battery, which can cause permanent damage. Apple has taken steps to address an issue in iOS 13 where the battery stops charging when it reaches 80% in some scenarios, but that’s not always enough.

If you don’t like the 80% limit while charging, you can disable the Optimize Battery Charging option to revert to the old way where you could potentially damage your iPhone’s battery due to overcharging. You can disable this feature indefinitely or just for a day.

There is another way, you can set an alarm that will go off when the battery is fully charged.

Battery Full Notification, Shortcut by Aniosgamer, notifies you with an alarm when your iPhone’s battery is full. While you might not want an alarm to wake you up in the middle of the night, it’s a useful tool to use when you charge your iPhone during the day and don’t want it to charge more than it needs to.

Add "Battery Full Warning"

Full battery alert scripts are posted on RoutineHub, where newer versions will also be posted when they become available. So we recommend taking it from there.

Go to the site, then click "Get Shortcut". You will be redirected to the Teams app where you can check the content of the workflow. If everything is ok, click "Add untrusted shortcut" at the bottom. (You may have to first go to Settings -> Commands and enable "Allow untrusted commands" if it’s not already.)

Set up a full battery alert

To set the alarm to notify you when your battery is full, sign in to the Teams app and tap on the Battery Low Alert command in the My Teams tab. Click "Start" on the menu that appears (in iOS 13 the menu will be at the bottom, but in iOS 14 it will be at the top).

If you didn’t receive a notification that the team was granted access, you can grant it access in another way. In Commands, tap the ellipsis (•••) icon in the upper right corner of the Battery Low Warning command, then scroll down until you find the Clock action. Click Allow Access, then OK. If you see "Team Details" instead, turn on "Clock" and tap "Done" in the top right corner. Click Finish to exit the workflow.

Turn on battery alarm

After granting permissions to the watch, you may have to click Start again to make sure everything works. You can then exit Teams.

A minute and a half after your battery reaches 100%, a beep will sound. If your iPhone is unlocked, you’ll see a banner at the top of the screen saying Battery Full, or you’ll get a full-screen alarm ring (as well as a banner) if it’s locked – all accompanied by your usual beep. Press "Stop" to turn off the alarm, otherwise it will ring again after 9 minutes.

Delete extra alarms

A by-product of using this command is to create a new alarm in the Clock app every time you use it. Let’s say you use this command every day for a week – you’ll have seven different alarms stored, which is annoying.

Although they will never call again, you should get rid of them so that there is no mess. To delete alarms, open Clock from the Alarms tab. Each alarm associated with a team will tell you when the battery is low, so you’ll quickly know which ones to remove. To remove an alarm, swipe left on it until it disappears from the screen; swipe it to the left for a short time and press the "Delete" button.
