How to view passwords from saved WiFi networks on Android

While owning an Android device, you’ve probably connected to dozens of Wi-Fi networks. School, home, work, gym, your friends and family’s homes, cafes – every time you enter one of these Wi-Fi passwords, your Android device saves it for safe storage and easy access in the future.

The problem comes when you want to see the password for one of the networks you are connected to. Maybe you want to connect another device to a saved Wi-Fi hotspot, or maybe you’re with a friend who also wants to connect to the same hotspot.

If you have Android 10 or higher, you can see Wi-Fi passwords right from your phone’s settings. However, if you are using Android 9.0 Pie or below, then you will need to root.

Android 10 and above

This method does not require root or even an additional application. However, your phone must be running Android 10 or higher. If your phone has been updated to this version, below I will describe a quick and easy way to view saved Wi-Fi passwords.

Find Wi-Fi settings

There is currently only one version of Android 10 and that is the "Stock Android" version directly from Google. However, in the near future, manufacturers like Samsung will create their own version of Android 10 by applying an OEM skin like One UI, which means the settings menu on your phone might be slightly different.

So, first go to the "Settings" menu and find the "Wi-Fi" submenu. On stock Android, this is located in Settings -> Network & Internet. Once you find the Wi-Fi settings menu, select it.

Now select the "Share" option at the top of the screen. You will be prompted to scan your fingerprint or face, or enter your PIN or password. After that, you will see a QR code, which is the SSID and password of the network. You can scan this on another device using a QR scanner if you like, but the password is also listed in plain text below the QR code, so you can copy it from there.
