Invisible folder – how to create it on the desktop?

4

Suppose you want to hide some information from third-party computer users. How to create an invisible folder on the desktop and limit personal space without further questions?

Disguise

If the volume of the contents of the folder allows you to place it directly on the desktop, then proceed as follows:

  1. We right-click on the folder and click on "Properties" in the context menu.
  2. At the bottom, we tick the attributes “Read only" and “Hidden”.
  3. "OK".

You will not be able to open an invisible folder, even if you click on its location. It is determined through the search menu: just enter its name in the search box. To bypass the search engine, you can completely remove the file name:

  1. Click on the folder name with the left mouse button.
  2. Press F2 (or select "Rename" from the context menu).
  3. Press and hold the Alt key.
  4. On the additional (located on the right) keyboard, we type the code 255.
  5. Release Alt.

The result is a file without a name, which can be made invisible. To open it, you need to enter a phrase or word from this file in the corresponding search box, known only to you. As you can see, it will be very, very difficult for others to find the hidden information.

Hide the label

It happens that the size of the folder does not allow placing it directly on the desktop: too much information can overload the clipboard. In this case, all the information is somewhere in the wilds of the hard drive, and there is a corresponding shortcut on the desktop. To hide a shortcut, you need to reset its name with the code 255 on the side keyboard, and then hide the icon itself:

  1. Click on the shortcut with the right mouse button.
  2. Select the "Label" tab.
  3. Click on "Change icon" at the bottom of the tab.
  4. We choose an empty place from the proposed pictures.
  5. "OK"

The label becomes invisible. However, it is very easy to find it, just click on its location or click on an empty spot on the desktop, and then press Ctrl + A. If this option suits you, place the label in advance under the basket or in the corner of the screen so that you do not forget where it is located.

Folder properties and attributes are the same on any computer. And now you know how to create an invisible folder on the desktop of Windows 7, Vista, XP and any other operating system.

Who seeks will always find

It may happen that you do not remember either the name or the text content of an invisible file. Finding it through a search engine in this case is impossible. To find such a hidden folder, proceed as follows:

  1. Open drive D.
  2. On the top toolbar of the window, click "Tools".
  3. Select "Folder Options".
  4. In the window that opens, select the "View" tab.
  5. At the bottom of the tab, check the box "Show hidden files and folders."
  6. "OK".

Now all hidden files will be visible on your computer. That invisible one you were looking for, too. Most often, system files are hidden, so if you don’t want to see unnecessary information while working on your computer, change this property as described above, checking the line “Do not show hidden files and folders”.

And a couple of tips

Turn on Num Lock to activate the side keyboard. You can use the code 0160 to reset the name.

If you do not want to create a hidden folder without a name, so that you can always find it through the search, come up with some original name for it, known only to you.

If there is no side (optional) keyboard, press and hold Alt+Fn at the same time to dial a numeric code.
