We are inextricably linked with water. It is simply impossible to imagine the life of a person and all organisms without this wonderful moisture. The use of water has become so natural that we sometimes do not even think about the wonderful properties that it has. There is an old saying: "Water wears away the stone." Let’s try to understand this phenomenon.

From the point of view of chemistry, the process of dissolution of the original substance under the influence of water occurs. We are accustomed to consider this unique liquid pure and transparent, especially from mountain sources, but this is not entirely true. In water, you can always find impurities of various elements. In fact, every day we use the entire periodic table, so familiar from chemistry lessons. Where do all these components come from in water? Substances constantly interact with each other. This means that water, upon contact with any compound, takes its elements to itself. In other words, dissolve it.

What mechanisms result in the dissolution process? Consider the structure of water. Chemical formula H2O. That is, there are oxygen and hydrogen atoms. It is known that oxygen is a powerful oxidizing agent. And as a result of oxidation, as a rule, the destruction of the substance occurs. In addition, the water molecule can be considered as an electric dipole. This is due to the fact that there is a redistribution of the density of positive and negative charges around the oxygen and hydrogen atoms. Therefore, when water interacts with a substance in which atoms have a significant charge, the forces of attraction become simply enormous. The result is a dissolved product. Water simply “rips apart" the compound that comes into contact with it. And this process is irreversible.

Let us now try to deal with such a question related to the solubility of water. Is it good or bad? It is impossible to give a definite answer. Any builder will tell you that this is just a disaster. Water, getting into the cracks and voids formed during the construction of the foundation and walls of buildings, will inevitably carry out work to destroy the materials from which they are made. To avoid this, protective measures have to be taken, which makes the construction process more laborious.

But there are still more positive aspects of the dissolution process. Imagine that water would stop splitting the starting substances into components. No living organism could digest food. New substances could not be formed. There would be total chaos.
