Why test cable lines?

1

Many owners of large construction and industrial facilities have long realized the importance of preventive measures. Such measures in most cases are aimed at preventing major technical problems or accidents, as well as the subsequent costly and long-term repairs. The most relevant is the testing of cable lines for resistivity. Often, the owners of such lines underestimate the importance of the timely implementation of these preventive maintenance, which leads to negative consequences.

Defects on ropes and cables can appear for various reasons, most of which cannot be foreseen and eliminated. At the same time, a weakened cable with a defect will be intensively destroyed under the influence of a standard operating voltage on the damaged section, which in the future can lead to a major accident, cause a fire and deprive the power supply for a long time. Without fail, cable lines are tested during the initial laying, however, in the future, regular testing should not be avoided either.

Tests are carried out using special equipment, which not only allows you to determine the condition of the cable by passing direct and alternating high voltage through it, but also to find the places of damage, find out the approximate distance to them, and characterize the condition of the insulation. The most commonly used microprocessor unit, which is sometimes also called a milliohmmeter. The specified device allows you to reliably determine the average value of the voltage, standard and beyond the limits of the deviation.

You can usually easily find a specialized organization that will regularly test the resistivity of cables. Such a precaution will eliminate the likely difficulties without causing significant costs. Test procedures take a short period of time and will not cause the suspension of the entire organization. Identified defects can be immediately eliminated without waiting for significant damage to the cable.

Aging and the impact of a number of external factors are unconditional circumstances affecting the state of the power grid. It should also be remembered that when checking the technical condition of the facility, the technical supervision bodies or other controlling entities will necessarily demand the certificates of the relevant tests. Their absence may be the basis for liability, which is another factor indicating the need for periodic inspections.
